The story of Earth House Scotland
Earth House Scotland was made with love for love, it was created to gather family, for children to run around and for the grown ups to reconnect with each other and the land. The Lodge is built on an ancient pictish site that was named after being a bright beautiful gathering place.
The design philosophy was to be as understated as possible, to let the light create the colour and the shadows the texture. Every room as views of a beautiful part of the most beautiful country in the world. many of the elements were designed from scratch, drawn, refined, and built, marrying modern materials with ancient ones.
The original pitched pine floors were restored where possible with reclaimed wood forming new floors, pitched pine from a 18th century church, laid in a herringbone pattern, beech from a sporting facility, we were told Meadowbank stadium.
The walls were stripped down to nothing and finished with lime plaster the way it used to be done.
The house was shown love at every turn and the outcome was to bring this exceptional Scottish property back and give it a fresh start for another three centuries.
