Love lines
Just because something is not the star of the show or in this case, the room, it shouldn’t be neglected, so we spent time to find the hidden aspects of the space that could otherwise just have been overlooked, to us they’re important and they form these spaces that make for a unique form of happiness that comes from lines, angles, light and shadow.
-
Light
The House has spots in every room and they create basic neutral light but there are all forms of additional lighting throughout the house, much of if custom made. There are lights behind mirrors, where the floors meet the skirting boards and its diffused through glass all over the house. Most of all when the sun rises and light enter the house the whole place is pure magic.
-
Details are important
Throughout the house there are details that make for a harmonious space. Circles and organic balanced shapes can be found throughout the house. The widows that have been added all conform to the golden ratio. Throughout the house, we hid little circles with the animals. birds and plants of Scotland printed on them for the grandchildren to find.

Nature is the real draw
In Scotland the land is so beautiful that the need to focus on the style of a room, felt hardly necessary. Originally we thought to do more to the rooms but as time went on and the rooms took shape and we were able to see the views from the windows, we decided to simplify the design to the extent that we could to place the focus on the land.
-
Sticks and Stones
Picking up sticks covered in lichen, cones dropped by the evergreens and stones is a daily occurrence, they are all brought inside and put somewhere in the house. The beauty of Scotland is everywhere, you just have to take the time to see it.
-
Simplicity
Where ever we could, we opted for simple design choices relying on materials to create interest, making sure the spaces didn’t seem boring.
